The Week in Multisport

Time again for a Week in Multisport edition of Endurance Planet. This week we talk with Barry Siff of Daily Triathlon about all the latest race results and developments on the multi-sport scene as the season literally and figuratively heats up. And Barry weighs in on the question, “Who would win in an Ironman race between Chrissy Wellington and Lance Armstrong?”

Jeff Hardisty’s father had died of heart disease at the age of 46, so when Hardisty himself toed the line of the Seattle Marathon at 46, he had a lot on his mind. Jeff had undergone heart surgery just months prior, but had his doctor’s ok to attempt 26.2. This week’s Marathon & Beyond Monday is Hardisty’s account of that day.

The Endurance Planet Hour

It’s a Badwater edition of the Endurance Planet Hour. This week we talk with the three-time defending women’s champion, Jamie Donaldson, who set another record on the 135-mile course. We’ll also get the perspective of a Badwater rookie, Jimmy Dean Freeman, who finished the grueling race and is riding an emotional high (wouldn’t you be?) And we’ll round out the area with a piece of fiction that will keep you moving down the road.

Marathon and Beyond Monday: Transformation of an Adventure Runner, Part II

Today we’re wrapping up our two-part edition from endurance legend Marshall Ulrich. Last week we heard the first half of Ulrich’s Marathon & Beyond article titled, “Transformation of an Adventure Runner One Runner’s Journey From the Farm to Mount Everest,
Through Joyful and Scary Places in His Heart and Soul.” The first half of ulrich’s story in which he transformed himself from a farmboy to an elite ultramarathoner and adventure racer, and how he endured the death of his first wife. But Marshall admits that his success in endurance sports had become too important to him. “I had a hard time believing that not finishing an event might be more beneficial to my psyche, to my heart and soul,” says Ulrich. This week we learn how that perspective changed.

This week we talk with Barry Siff of Daily Triathlon about Matty Reed’s impressive double last week. And we talk about Chrissy Wellington who will be racing to break her own Iron-distance world record this weekend.

The Endurance Planet Hour

On this week’s Endurance Planet Hour we talk with Karl Keltner who, each year, sets out on an adventure to raise money for charity. And when we say “adventure” we mean a tough, soul-searching endeavor that always creates lasting memories. This year Karl is raising money for the HOPE Foundation. HOPE (“Helping Overcome Pediatric Emergencies”) is aimed at addressing the financial needs of families not covered by national foundations and insurance, when they’re faced with a pediatric emergency. Also on today’s show we discuss how to achieve healthy body weight and we ask the question “What is going on the minds of professional cyclists?”

Marathon and Beyond Monday: Transformation of an Adventure Runner, Part I

This week’s story is the first of a two-part edition written by endurance sports legend Marshall Ulrich. The title: “Transformation of an Adventure Runner…one runner’s journey from the farm to Mount Everest, through joyful and scary places in his heart and soul.”
