Joni Van der Veen is a highly accomplished triathlete who has had the pleasure of watching her son follow in her footsteps. But the fact that Van der Veen lived to see her son grow up is a story in of itself. As a young mother, she was involved in a horrific skiing accident that nearly ended her life.
