The Week in Multisport

Time again for a Week in Multisport edition of Endurance Planet with Barry Siff of Daily Triathlon.
This time around we discuss results from the ITU World Championship Series kickoff in Sydney where a small competitor made a big showing. Barry shares his thoughts on the unorthodox way that former Ironman champion Chris “Macca” McCormack is racing. And we look ahead to next week’s Boston Marathon.

The Endurance Planet Hour

This week’s Endurance Planet Hour focuses on 3 individuals in the sport of triathlon who are facing significant challenges of different types. Six-time Ironman World Champion Dave Scott speaks with us about his long road to recovery following his bicycle wreck with an SUV. We also speak with age-group triathlete Matt Hoover who is determined to become an Ironman. If Hoover’s name sounds familiar, it’s because he rose to the challenge on season two of The Biggest Loser and won the reality show’s grand prize. And finally, we talk about the challenges that Olympic triathlete Matty Reed has faced since he publicly announced his decision to get cycling help from banned cyclist Tyler Hamilton (a decision he has since reversed.)

The Debate Over Matty Reed and Tyler Hamilton

Matty Reed sent out a “tweet” earlier this week that sparked a fierce, online debate. His Twitter post notified the world that he is working on his cycling with Tyler Hamilton. Hamilton is serving an 8-year-ban from cycling after twice testing positive for a banned substance. Today on Endurance Planet, Kelly Reed—Matty’s wife and coach—tackles the criticism and explains their reasoning for working with the controversial cyclist.

The Endurance Planet Hour

On this week’s Endurance Planet Hour we go in search of answers to the questions, “Why do we do this? Will it help us live longer? Is it good for us?” Guests include: 24-year-old Nick Budzyn—who is running for seventeen consecutive hours on a treadmill today, and Coach Ryan Ross—who has pushed his limits and found a balance.
