Lucho joins us to answer your questions on breathing rate while running and should we try and control it (less and/or more), on lactate threshold (LT) and related terminology such as FTP (plus why LT is important, why LT is not the same as anaerobic threshold (AT), why AT should not be used, how LT relates to FTP and more), how come an elite soccer player can’t keep up with distance runners, why are triathletes much more private with their training plans than ultrarunners, brands of fuel, insight on why stride length shortens during a marathon and should we try and fix that, POlar Ownzone issues, Garmin watch info, how to deal with GI issues once they occur, when to expect speed increases with the Maffetone method, and how to use MAF for hill run training, the longest run when training for a 50k, and training plan questions.

Here are my results from practicing the Maffetone Method: http://www.runningonthewhiteline.com/2007/12/hr-t…
Question about base training: Is there a preferred method for spreading out the miles over the week for base training? For instance, if I'm running 50 miles a week, should I do five runs of 10 miles? Or should I do two 6 mile runs, a 15 mile run and a 23 mile run (or some other such variation)? What is the best way to use the mileage during base training?
I recommend a strength workout (hills), a speed workout (flat strides or Fartlek), an easy, recovery form based workout, and then a long workout. So three short, 1 long.
Chris- During the base period any of those combinations will work. I would favor the long run paired with shorter recovery days though. Listen to your body mostly. If you need a short run because you're tired then take it. If you feel awesome and have the time, then tack on miles. Your body will tell you what to do.
Agreed that most pro triathletes don't share their data, but Craig Alexander is now providing periodic training files here: http://home.trainingpeaks.com/profiles/craig-alex…
Cool. Lance Armstrong is on Strava.
